It has been a long journey so far. Somehow I thought things would be
easier yet I find myself shutout for the year. I had not accounted myself at all
despite all my training. I still feel my father’s eyes telling me to keep
trying when I was down. Somehow that kept me going during those dark
early days after my father’s death. The memory is more of a reassuring thought
that my father is still with me in some way. Since arriving at the
Crescent, I have felt a little uneasy. My father used to get this feeling
where he could sense them. I know that this feeling is not the same as my
father’s intuition. It was just an impression from something in my past.
I knew it was just the uncomfortable confines of the city. Still the city
was the best place to find what I was looking for. I hated cities. It was
crowded filthy but in many ways a cesspool of what I am looking for. The
cities forced choices between what had to be done and what one would have
liked to do if these were better times. A breeding ground where it can
quietly stay hidden in the shadows. I was not yet half the man my father
was but I aimed to come as close as possible by proving myself.
I sat in various taverns listening to idle bar room talk. I always took a table in the corner because it provided a good view of the tavern and kept me away from the crowds. Taverns were a good source of information or so my father said. As I was quietly listening, I heard a few drunk sailors talking who were spreading a lot of coin. They must have had a big payday recently. The sailors were pretty drunk but a part of the story caught my attention. A story came to mind as I heard the sailor’s tale. They were scared. I could tell by the tone of there voice and the fact that they were at a tavern to drown their fears away. It was the start I was looking for. Eventually the story drifted to what I need, names and places. I heard what I needed to hear, but I waited. No point in attracting attention. I waited a while finished my drink and left. People stared at me but that was not unusual. I was bristling with weapons and pretty big wearing clad in black. At least most people gave me a wide berth, which allows me to avoid most trouble. I stared into the vast sky. Another journey ahead to find three elves, two humans and a minotaur who should attract the right kind of trouble I was looking for. |
