The origin of Kaltros (Kal)

A new character that
never got used
The Emperor was looking for some strong men to join his armies in the battle in Mithranas. He didn't just take volunteers, and many were drafted. Kaltros came from a nobles family, so was not included in any draft, but being the second born son doomed him to a lack of power or purpose. So he enlisted. A natural leader and a swift learner helped Kaltros rise up through the ranks swiftly. He became fluent in Mithranas and was quickly sent overseas. Thanks to his noble blood, he was given a good position in the army, but he was young and his decisions and opinions were often overruled, or just plain ignored. One day Kal was walking through the town he was stationed in when a group of rebels began berating the soldiers. Kal tried to talk some sense in the rebels, but it ended up going the other way, and soon Kal was sympathetic to the rebels. He realized that the emperor, who likely only meant good, was too far removed to realize the folly of his ways. Kal began to dislike his fellow officers, seeing as how they enjoyed there militaristic power. When Kal heard of a plan to attack a rebel outpost, he requested a transfer to the northern lands. Most officers feared being transferred to the north. However, in the north Kal he could fight beasts and creatures instead of his fellow humans. The transfer was granted, and he was given a small number of troops to head north with and eventually join up with a larger army. Along the way they were asked to destroy a small goblin encampment, and Kal agreed. They reached the camp late at night, and decided to attack immediately, using the dark as cover. He sent the majority of his troops in, while taking 3 of them behind the camp. The troops began burning the tents and the battle was underway. Then Kal noticed that these were no goblins. This was a rebel encampment! He grabbed the soldier nearest him and asked how this could have happened. The foot soldier was so shaken by Kal's angered face that he explained the truth. The goblins were never here. They were a lie concocted to get Kal to fight the rebels. The elder officers hoped once in battle Kal would come to his senses and rejoin in the battle against the rebels. Kal became enraged, and looked around the havoc he had inadvertently wrought. The rebels were badly outmatched. This group must of been little more than a supply train with a few poorly trained guards. Kal made his decision and began to fight with the rebels. Using surprise and his superior training, he was able to quickly sway the tide of the battle in favor of the rebels. The decision was made. Kaltros was a traitor to his homeland. But he could not ignore his heart. That was three years ago...
As always I give you permission to change or alter things as you see fit to help the adventure. I see Kal as a low level officer within the rebel army. Because despite his Darnecian blood he is well-trained, and has on occasion shown his loyalty is with the rebels. He is often used for spying and deception since he is well suited to fit in with the other Darnecian soldiers. Any questions?
