IRC Podcast 2010-03-02 Kevin Hines:

The IRC Podcast is a very cool improv podcast being done by Kevin Mullaney.

I was super flattered to be asked to do this. We talk about some exercises I like to do to help people react (including one I did with Smirk before they were Smirk, and one I did with a bunch of groups although I cite an example involving Shannon Coffey during a rehearsal with The Spinoffs), then I talk about the Macroscene (which I  have already talked about too much on this blog) and finally I talk about a third beat exercise I like (first done with Bangs).

Kevin Mullaney was my level 1 teacher at the UCB (back in June of 2000!). He was my first coach for my first Harold Team (sadly named The Rrrrrockets!). He coached my longest lasting indie team (Stomping Ground) for a long stretch.

It was so surreal discussing teaching with Kevin. It reminded me how far I have come, and also felt very validating as an improv teacher. I don’t think he knew how much it meant to me to do this.

Listen to this podcast, and you can hear me get flustered when Kevin compliments my use of side coaching (near the end, around 23:39).

Thanks Kevin!
