Why haven’t I posted recently? Well I have been busy watching You Tube videos of old Marvel Super-Heroes cartoons.
For those that don’t remember (or are too young) here is a quick explanation. There used to be these cartoons featuring some of the Marvel Super-Heroes, Thor, Sub-Mariner, Captain America, Hulk, and Iron Man. They were barely animated. Mostly mouths moving and sliding cut outs of the characters around. This limited animation combined with the sound effects that were shown (as well as heard) were supposed to give it a comic book brough to life feel. These were short. Less then 15 minutes for sure.
I know when I was a kid they reran a bunch of these and followed them with the fully animated Spider-Man cartoon.
Like the Spider-Man cartoon these all had theme songs, and they haven’t really entered the public conciousness like ‘Does Whatever a Spider Can’ has.
But they are hilarious. My personal favorite is Iron Man (YouTube link). I love the jazzy back and forth between then man and woman.
But many people seem to love the Hulk (YouTube link). It has a very light jovial feel for such a tragic character.
I also watched the almost operatic opening for the Sub-Mariner (YouTube link) and the subdued opening for Thor (YouTube link).
Sadly I can’t find Captain America’s opening (audio only) which is probably the one I remember most from my childhood.
Why didn’t the Fantastic Four opening have lyrics?

The drawings are all Kirby (except one Ditko shot in Hulk, I think) — but whoever wrote the lyrics was trying his/her best to be like Stan The Man Lee!
